‘Don’t Want to Put Any Pressure on The Youngster..’: Brett Lee Shares His Thoughts on The Young Sensation – Mayank Yadav

by Jose

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has often introduced world cricket to upcoming stars who can go on to be the big guns in the future. IPL 2024 has found one such name in the early stages of the tournament itself – Mayank Yadav.

Mayank is a right-arm quick bowler and his bowling speed is such that using quick here also feels like an understatement. Yadav clocked 155.8 kmph on his IPL debut against Punjab Kings. He followed it up by breaking his own record in his second game, bowling at a speed of 156.7 kmph against RCB.

Talking about the new sensation in town, the veteran Australian speedster and Jio Cinema Expert Brett Lee said that he doesn’t want to put any pressure on the youngster.

“First things first, I don’t want to put any extra pressure on him,” Brett told the media at a media conference organized by Jio Cinema.

“If we talk about the chance to represent India, it could put pressure on the guy who’s 21 years of age. I am super impressed with what I have seen of him so far – he’s got great pace and nice action. I am excited to see how his future progresses in the next 12-18 months,” he added.

‘Impressed with Bumrah..’

Brett also talked about the senior pacemen and arguably the best T20 bowler going around in World Cricket right now.

“I’m still impressed with Bumrah,” said Brett.

“Even though the other evening he didn’t bowl the best that he’s bowled, he’s still world-class. There’s one thing I’ll say about Bumrah: I don’t think they (Mumbai Indians) have correctly used him (in this tournament),” added Russell.

Fans have been complaining about the fact that Bumrah was not given the new ball in a few games and Brett Lee resonates with them.

“He has bowled the fourth and fifth over in a couple of games, and in the last one, he took the new ball. Even though it was the second over, it was hard for him to control the swing because he hadn’t bowled with the brand-new ball in the last few games. So, I’d love Bumrah to take the brand-new ball from the first over,” Brett, the Jio Cinema expert said.

‘Not Concerned About MI…’

Mumbai Indians have had a rocky start to the tournament. They are still looking for their first win of the season, having lost their first three games.

Even though MI has had a poor start, Brett is still very optimistic about their chances and their future in this season.

“If you have a look at their record, they’re the most successful team in IPL’s history. I think back to the time when they won a tournament (2015) despite losing four games on the trot,” Brett said.

“So, I’m not concerned about MI at the moment. They do have a couple of issues with not scoring runs, and bowlers not bowling their best in different areas, but they’re still showing signs of how good they are as a team. I think patience is the key with Mumbai at the moment,” the veteran seamer added.

‘Would love to see Kohli..’

One big name that has been in discussions, as always, is the senior pro, Virat Kohli. The debate is around his inclusion in the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will begin just days after the IPL ends.

Many fans believe that Kohli is a must in every XI considering his records in the IPL and the T20 World Cups. But some believe that India has better and most importantly, younger options in place of him at no. 3.

Brett also gave his input on the topic, backing the senior batter for his inclusion.

“I would love to see big players playing in the T20 World Cup. I would love to see guys like Virat Kohli playing in the World Cup,” Brett said.
